Morning Class, Faculty of Engineering, Unismuh, Discusses Sustainable Landscapes with Malaysian Academics

**TEKNIK.UNISMUH.AC.ID, MAKASSAR** — The Faculty of Engineering, Muhammadiyah University of Makassar (Unismuh), is holding the 9th series of Morning Class on Monday, August 25, 2025. This academic forum, which takes place in the Minihall of the Faculty of Engineering and is also held online, features an international discussion on landscape planning, disaster mitigation, and environmental sustainability.

The event, which lasted for over two hours, featured three speakers. From Unismuh, Fathurrahman Burhanuddin, ST., MT., was present, while two academics from Universiti Malaysia Kelantan, namely LAr. CA. Dr. Khalilah binti Hassan and LAr. Dr. Ramly bin Hasan, also participated in the cross-country discussion. Moderator M. Nurhidayat, ST., MT., opened the meeting by emphasizing the function of the Morning Class as a means of sharing knowledge and expanding international research networks.

Fathurrahman highlighted the integration of landscape planning with disaster risk reduction strategies, particularly in vulnerable areas. Dr. Khalilah discussed the importance of preserving trees in construction as part of preserving ecological heritage. Dr. Ramly, on the other hand, discussed the harmonization of sustainable landscape design with architectural space in order to create an adaptive built environment.

The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Dr. Ar. Hj. Irnawaty Idrus, ST., MT., described the Morning Class as part of the Panrita#11 event. "This forum demonstrates the faculty's commitment to creating cross-country collaboration. From here, networks can develop into joint research, international publications, and community service programs," she said.

The Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Ir. Muhammad Syafaat S. Kuba, ST., MT., emphasized that this activity supports the internationalization strategy of Unismuh Makassar. "We hope that the Morning Class will be a driving force for broader collaboration, starting from research, student and faculty exchange, and joint publications with partner universities," said Syafaat.

With the enthusiasm of the participants and the involvement of speakers from within and outside the country, Morning Class #9 has become an inspiring forum that brings together ideas, research, and real actions in efforts to build a sustainable future.
