HMS Faculty of Engineering, UNISMUH, Holds Scientific Writing Workshop.

**TEKNIK.UNISMUH.AC.ID, MAKASSAR** — A total of 33 students from the Civil Engineering and other programs at Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar participated in a Scientific Writing Workshop entitled "Improving Student Research Quality through Scientific Writing Workshop from Thesis to Journal". The event took place on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, at the Faculty of Engineering Hall.
The event was officially opened by the Head of the Civil Students Association, Ashabul Kahfi, with full support from the Civil Engineering Students Association as the organizer. In his speech, Ashabul emphasized the importance of students having the ability to write high-quality scientific works, not only to complete their studies but also to make a real contribution in the field of research.
Dr. A. Aco Karumpa, S.Pd., M.Pd., a lecturer at the Faculty of Science and Religion, Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar, was the main speaker, providing in-depth material on writing a thesis thoroughly and in detail. Not only theoretical explanations, Dr. Aco also invited participants to practice the steps of writing scientific works. This practical method made the training atmosphere more lively and easy for students to understand.
"Writing a thesis is not just an academic obligation, but also a skill that will sharpen critical thinking, scientific logic, and contribution to knowledge," said Dr. Aco during the training session.
The output of this activity is quite ambitious. Participants are expected to be able to determine research topics, formulate appropriate titles, and complete Chapters I Introduction, Chapter II Literature Review, and Chapter III Methodology. In other words, at the end of the training, students are expected to be able to produce a meaningful and impactful research proposal.
The enthusiasm of the participants was evident from the beginning to the end of the event. "I have often been confused about how to start my thesis. But after attending this workshop, I feel more confident and have a clear direction," said Nur Ananda Zalzabilah, one of the participants from the Civil Engineering Program. Similarly, Rijal Akram, another participant, said, "The practical methods taught were very helpful. It feels like being directly guided in writing a research proposal."
This workshop is a very helpful starting point for students in writing their thesis. The hope is that similar activities can continue to produce publications in the form of student journals that can compete at the national and international levels.
This activity proves that with the right support, students are not only able to write a good thesis, but also have the potential to become young researchers who are ready to make a real contribution to the community and the academic world. From a simple classroom in the Faculty of Engineering, a great spirit was born to build a strong research tradition among students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Makassar.
